Indian Constitution is best: Justice Dhyani

Justice (retd) U C Dhyani, Chairman of the Uttarakhand Public Services Tribunal, on Wednesday said the Indian Constitution is the best and the judicial system is a protective wall for citizens.

Speaking at the Constitution Day celebrations held at Doon University, he said the Indian Constitution is the world’s largest written document, drafted after extensive study and dedication by the framers of the Constitution.

He elaborated on various aspects of the Constitution, explaining the legal intricacies in simple language with several interesting anecdotes. Referring to the Constitution’s articles, Justice Dhyani said the federal structure binds the country together in unity through diversity.

At the event, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Head and Dean of School of Media and  Communication Studies said the Indian Constitution is not just a document, but a living document. He elaborated on the rights and duties enshrined in the Constitution and emphasized that the people must be vigilant about their rights.

Prof H.C. Purohit, Dean of Students Welfare, recalled the dedication and study of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar, explaining that after extensive and in-depth study, the world’s most comprehensive constitution was drafted. Babasaheb Ambedkar himself was the chairman of the drafting committee, who played a significant role in drafting this document. He urged students to broaden their studies to meet future challenges.

Guests were welcomed at the event by Doon University Registrar, Mr. Durgesh Dimri, who presented a bouquet to Justice Dhyani. In keeping with this year’s Constitution Day theme, the program “My Constitution, My Self-Respect” was organized jointly by the Ambedkar Chair and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Faculty and students from various schools of the university participated in the program. The program was conducted by Dr. Manvendra Bartwal of the Department of Anthropology, and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Saumya Pandey. Dr. Vijay Sridhar, Dr. Achlesh Deori SNR, Divyanjali Bijalwan, Dr. Himani Sharma, Dr. Charu Dwivedi, Dr. Sarita Singh, M. N. Chamoli, D.C. Purohit, Devyani Luthra, Smita Rawat, Disha Tripathi, Anushka Rawat, Mehak Aswal, Bidushi Kaparvan, Aditya Nival, Sudhanshu Chauhan, Alex Hinwal, Sagar Singh, and Sarita Juyal, among others, participated in the program.
