A joint meeting of three prominent left parties was held at the CPI (M) state office in Dehradun and announced their support for the nation-wide g0eneral strike called by all major labour organisations and trade unions on July 9 against the labour codes.
In the meeting, the leaders of the three left parties CPI, CPI (M) and CPI (ML) said that by repealing the labour laws achieved by decades of struggles of the workers, the Narendra Modi government wants to impose four labour codes on the workers. These parties claimed that new loabour codes have weakened the labour rights and accused the government of pushing of complete privatization of public sectors like railways.
These labour codes open a legal way to make the workers slaves of the capitalists. The working class of the country will neither accept the labour codes of slavery nor will it tolerate the power that attacks the Constitution and democracy. The leftist parties will take to the streets on July 9 with full force along with the labour organisations in this campaign.
The leftist leaders said that as soon as the Kanwar Yatra started, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and his ministers have come down to polarisation. Forcibly asking the shopkeepers on the route of the Kanwar Yatra to write their names is an attempt to intensify polarisation. Last year itself, the Supreme Court had banned the practice of forcing people to write their names, declaring it illegal.
Forcing people to write their names again this time is a blatant violation of the Supreme Court’s instructions. It is ironic that the entire BJP, including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the groups nurtured by them, have turned every festival into a campaign to spread communal hatred against minorities. This unconstitutional tendency of differentiating citizens on the basis of religion should be stopped immediately.
The meeting was attended by CPI National Council member Comrade Samar Bhandari, State Council member Comrade Ashok Sharma, CPI(M) State Secretary Comrade Rajendra Purohit, CPI(M) Central Committee member Comrade Rajendra Singh Negi, CPI(ML) State Secretary Comrade Indresh Maikhuri, State Committee member Comrade KK Bora, etc.
