Veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat on Tuesday slammed the Uttarakhand government for numerous dug-up roads and open pits in Haldwani town of Nainital district.
“In various parts of Haldwani, the practice of digging up roads—ostensibly for water pipelines and sewerage works—and then abandoning them, as carried out by the Uttarakhand Urban Sector Development Agency has become a glaring example of the functioning of the state government,” the former Chief Minister said on the social media.
“Across most urban areas, including Haldwani, residents are forced to contend daily with potholes, dust, and general chaos. While the government makes grand claims regarding development, the public on the ground remains plagued by dug-up roads and a dilapidated infrastructure,” Rawat said.
With board examinations currently underway, students and parents are facing immense difficulties even in reaching their designated examination centers, he said.
Quoting unidentified sources, Rawat further claimed that “the company executing the work in Haldwani belongs to Rajasthan and is operating in an arbitrary manner—a situation that is fueling growing outrage among the locals.”
“Development entails more than merely digging up roads; it is equally the government’s responsibility to ensure their timely restoration.
“The government must take immediate cognizance of this matter and undertake the necessary road repairs to provide relief to the people,” Rawat emphasized.
