Thunderstorm hits Dehradun, some other parts of Uttarakhand (updating)

Amid yet another yellow alert warning for Thursday in parts of Uttarakhand, a thunderstorm on Wednesday hit Dehradun and several other parts of the hill state with IMD saying rains are likely to continue for few more days in parts of north India.

Some trees and tin sheds were uprooted in the thunderstorm that began around 3 PM and continued for nearly one hour in Dehradun.

Meanwhile, IMD has again issued yellow alert stating that heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Nainital district on Thursday. “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning / gusty winds(40-50kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over Dehradun, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts (on Thursday),” it said.

IMD said isolated heavy rainfall likely over Himachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand on 7th October; Uttarakhand on 8th & 9th; over West Bengal & Sikkim on 7th & 8th October. Fairly Widespread to Widespread rainfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh during 7th-8th October and on 10th October.
❖ Isolated to Scattered rainfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh on 9th October and on 11th October; Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during 7th-13th October.
❖ Isolated to Scattered rainfall likely over Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi and Punjab during 7th-13th October; West Uttar Pradesh during 7th-9th October; East Uttar Pradesh during 7th-10th October; West Rajasthan during 11th-12th October; East Rajasthan on 12th October.
