The US and Israel launched fresh strikes against Iran as the Senate backed President Donald Trump’s military campaign against Tehran with the war entering its sixth day on Thursday with no signs of abating.

The Senate voted 53 to 47 not to advance the resolution, largely along party lines, with all but one Republican voting against the procedural motion and all but one Democrat supporting it, media reports said.

Iran on the other continued its drone attacks on Israel and some Gulf countries.

Meanwhile, hundreds of ships have been stranded due to Tehran’s threats to strike vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, affecting up to 20% of global oil trade.

More tankers came under attack in Gulf waters as the war escalated. Iranian drones entered Azerbaijan, threatening to spread the crisis to more oil producers in the region.
A Bahamas-flagged crude oil tanker was targeted by an Iranian ‌remote-controlled boat laden with explosives while anchored near Iraq’s Khor al Zubair port, according to initial assessments. A second tanker at anchor off Kuwait was taking on water and spilling oil after a large explosion on its port side.
