England on Tuesday became the first team to enter the semi-finals of the T-20 World Cup after defeating Pakistan by two wickets (5 balls left) in a Super 8 match at Kandy. This was England’s second victory in the Super 8 which propelled it to book a place in the semi-finals.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. With the help of Sahibzada Farhan (63), Pakistan scored 164 runs losing nine wickets. England’s bowlers Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton took two wickets each.
Chasing a target of 165 runs, English batters initially remained uncomfortable against Pakistani bowlers as England continued to lose wickets in regular intervals. At one point of time, England were 58/4. But skipper Harry Brook showed great resilience as he scored a magnificent century to guide England to two wickets victory. With this defeat, Pakistan’s chances of entering semi-finals now looks bleak.
