Actress Urmila Sanawar, who has been in the spotlight over allegations concerning the 2022 Ankita Bhandari murder case, was arrested by Haridwar police from her residence in Saharanpur on Sunday following a complaint by the daughter of former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore.
Police said Sanawar was arrested in connection with allegations of making objectionable and defamatory remarks on social media, demanding money and threatening the complainant and her family.
According to reports, Deepika Rathore, a resident of Haridwar’s Tehri Displaced Colony, lodged a complaint at Ranipur police station on the night of October 24.
The complainant alleged that Sanawar had made objectionable comments against her and her family on social media, damaging their reputation. She further alleged that Sanawar demanded that property associated with Ravidas Dham be transferred in her name, along with Rs 5 crore, through WhatsApp calls.
The complaint also accused Sanawar of threatening to kill the family if the demands were not met.
Following the complaint, a police case was registered and a team was constituted to investigate the allegations. A police team led by Ranipur station house officer Manohar Singh Bhandari subsequently raided Sanawar’s residence in the Sadar Bazar area of Saharanpur and arrested her on Sunday.
Police also recovered a mobile phone allegedly used in connection with the case, according to media reports. Further legal proceedings are under way.
