Can a person be resuscitated after being declared brain dead?

In Uttar Pradesh, 50-year-old Vineeta Shukla was brought back to life after doctors found no sign of life in her, several news outlets said quoting a last month incident.

Shukla started breathing again when the ambulance in which she was being taken hit a big pothole that shook the vehicle violently following which she came back to life, her husband told the media.

“A pothole on the Bareilly-Haridwar NH-74 unexpectedly revived Vineeta Shukla after doctors had declared that there was clinically no sign of life in her”, a prominent news outlet said after talking to her husband.

After she was discharged from a hospital in Bareilly with almost no hope of survival, her husband, Kuldeep Kumar Shukla, was bringing her home on February 24 in an ambulance when the vehicle hit the pothole on the damaged stretch of the highway.

Her husband said doctors had given almost no hope of survival and the family had begun preparing for her last rites.

Kuldeep said the ambulance struck a large pothole near Hafizganj, causing a violent jerk. Moments later, Vineeta started breathing normally again.

“I immediately informed my family to suspend all the funeral preparations,” he told the media.

However, top doctors said the story of Vineet Shukla’s revival can only be verified after lots of investigations.
