Encouraged by the warm response to her performances in Singapore and Malaysia, sitarist and composer Anoushka Shankar, daughter of legendary sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, will continue her Asia tour with performances in Japan and China this month.

Shankar, who expressed her gratitude for the hospitality and support she received during her recent shows, is scheduled to perform at Blue Note Tokyo on October 9, 10 and 11.

Her China engagements will include a performance at the Beijing Music Festival on October 14, followed by concerts at the Shanghai Oriental Center on October 16 and Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou on October 18.

Looking back on her recent shows, Shankar described the atmosphere at Singapore’s Esplanade as electric and thanked audiences for their energy and support.

Her Kuala Lumpur engagement, however, took an unexpected turn after the planned full concert was cancelled. Shankar said she was disappointed that she could not perform the concert as planned but was deeply touched by the messages and support she received from Malaysian fans.

“What strikes me about the last two shows is the incredible hospitality we’ve received and the beauty of human beings when they show up for each other,” Shankar said in a social media post. She said she was leaving Malaysia with a sense of gratitude after managing to perform for some of her fans despite the setback.

Shankar, who has established an international career while carrying forward the musical legacy of her father, is currently on an extensive tour of Asia.
