Anahat Singh on Sunday created history at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 by becoming the first Indian woman to win a silver medal in Asian Games in the individual singles category of squash.

The 18-year-old Indian’s historic run ended in the final when she was defeated by Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 in 27 minutes.

Sivasangari dominated the contest from the outset, taking the first two games comfortably. Anahat showed greater resistance in the third game but could not force the match into a fourth as the Malaysian secured the gold medal.

Anahat had produced a series of impressive performances to reach the final, breaking new ground for Indian women’s squash in the individual event. Her silver is particularly significant as previous Asian Games medals won by Indian women in squash had come in team or other formats rather than the individual singles category.

The medal adds to Anahat’s growing list of achievements on the international stage and underlines her emergence as one of India’s most promising young squash players.

India has a strong record in Asian Games squash, with players such as Joshna Chinappa and Saurav Ghosal having won medals in previous editions. Anahat’s achievement, however, marks a new milestone for Indian women in the individual singles event.

At just 18, Anahat has now added an Asian Games silver to her rapidly developing international career, giving Indian squash another significant landmark at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
