The Nainital Police have claimed to have solved the murder of a 29-year-old man in Banbhoolpura area in Haldwani town within 12 hours by arresting a man and recovering the scarf allegedly used in the crime.
The police on September 16 has received information that a man was lying unconscious in Jawahar Nagar under the Banbhoolpura police station. A police team reached the spot and found the man dead in the verandah of a house. The deceased was identified as Aman Thakur (29), a resident of Garhmukteshwar in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district. Police said he had been living in the house for the past four-five years.
The forensic team found a U-shaped mark around his neck, following which the death was treated as suspicious. Physical evidence was collected from the spot and the body was sent to Dr Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani for post-mortem.
Based on the post-mortem report and other evidences, police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Banbhoolpura police station and launched investigation.
Following directions from Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Manjunath TC, a police team examined CCTV footage from the area and conducted searches based on local intelligence and other evidence. Subsequently, police managed to nab Nikki alias Nati (32) on September 17 from an abandoned hut near Gola river in Haldwani. The scarf allegedly used in the murder was also recovered from Masta Tent House in Jawahar Nagar, where the accused worked.
During further investigations, police said it emerged that Nikki allegedly disliked Aman and suspected that his wife was having a relationship with him. Police said this had led to frequent arguments between the accused, his wife and Aman.
Police said that on September 15, the accused had rang up his wife’s sister and allegedly threatened to kill either Aman or his wife.
Further investigations into the case are underway.
