Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday inaugurated the newly developed ‘Jal Srishti Park’ at Miyanwala locality in Dehradun turning an old waterbody into a modern green and recreational space at a cost of ₹8.64 crore.
Developed by the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), the park combines the revival of the traditional pond with modern amenities, landscaping and recreational facilities.
Calling the project an important step towards a “clean, healthy and green Dehradun”, Dhami said the revival of the old pond was particularly significant as it preserved an existing water source instead of replacing it with concrete structures.
“The conservation of water sources is not merely about protecting the environment; it is about preserving our heritage and securing the future of coming generations,” he said.
The park features a landscaped island in the middle of the pond and pedal boating, which Dhami said would give residents of the Raipur area a “Nainital-like feeling” within Dehradun.
MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari and senior officials were among those present at the inauguration.
