Former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat returned to the state on Sunday after spending a prolonged period in New Delhi while recovering from ill health, receiving a warm and enthusiastic welcome from supporters and party workers in Haridwar and Dehradun.
Rawat, a veteran Congress leader, was greeted by supporters as he arrived in Uttarakhand, with his return generating considerable enthusiasm among his followers.
Soon after his return, Rawat expressed gratitude for the reception and said the affection and support of his people remained his biggest source of strength.
“The love and affection of my own people is my greatest strength. Heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome,” Rawat said in a social media post.
Rawat had been staying in New Delhi for some time while undergoing treatment and recovering from health-related problems. His return to Uttarakhand comes at a time when political activity in the state is beginning to intensify ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The former chief minister remains one of the Congress’s most prominent leaders in Uttarakhand and has continued to remain active in state politics despite his recent health-related absence.
His return is expected to bring renewed attention to the Congress’s political preparations in the state, where the party is seeking to challenge the ruling BJP in the next Assembly election.
