In an apparent bid to counter anti-incumbency, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday expressed confidence that the BJP would score a hat trick in Uttarakhand and urged voters to give the ruling party more than 65 seats in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Addressing a gathering at Parade Ground during the Uttarakhand Foundation Day celebrations, Shah said the BJP had already secured a hat-trick in several states, including Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Maharashtra, and it was now Uttarakhand’s turn.
Recalling the BJP’s performance in the 2017 and 2022 Assembly elections, when it won 57 and 47 seats respectively, Shah said the party needed to set a target of crossing 65 seats this time.
He accused the Congress of leaving Uttarakhand dependent on migration and a remittance-based economy, while claiming that the BJP government had worked to create an industrial economy, improve border infrastructure and check migration.
Referring to national security, he cited surgical strikes and Operation Sindoor as examples of the Modi government’s response to terrorism. He also defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing Rahul Gandhi’s campaign of protecting infiltrators.
Shah highlighted the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implemented in Uttarakhand, describing it as a major step towards uniformity in civil laws. He also cited infrastructure projects, including the Delhi-Dehradun expressway, Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway line and ropeway projects to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib, as examples of the Centre’s development push.
He alleged that the Congress, if voted to power, would promote a Muslim university, while the BJP would remove illegal religious structures and encroachments.
Earlier, Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 62 development projects worth Rs 1,475.31 crore as part of the state celebrations.
He urged voters to give the BJP another mandate, citing the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the party’s record on development, culture and security.
