After being scolded and slapped for indiscipline, a ninth class student shot and injured his teacher inside the school in Kashipur area of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand, police said on Thursday.
The shooting took place in Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School, a private school where the student shot his physics teacher Gagan Singh (35) with a pistol on Wednesday.
Singh, who received a gunshot on his shoulder, was immediately taken to a hospital where doctors removed the bullet after an operation. At present, his condition is said to be out of danger.
The sudden firing shook the entire school campus and created a chaos as children were seen running helter-skelter and screaming.
The police said that preliminary investigation has revealed that a few days ago, the 14-year-old student was scolded and slapped by the teacher for indiscipline, due to which he took the dangerous step. The student brought the pistol to school hidden in his lunch box.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the student and he has been taken under police protection.
The student will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Udham Singh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manikant Mishra said that other aspects related to the incident will also be investigated.
