With Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami taking cognizance of the media reports on adulterated salt, surprise inspections were being conducted at several places in Uttarakhand to check the quality.

CM Dhami has directed all the District Magistrates that the food items being made available to the public should be completely safe as per the prescribed standard.

Under the CM’s directive, a joint team of Revenue Department, Supply Department and Food Safety and Drug Administration conducted a surprise inspection at the government ration shops of all the tehsils of Pauri district.

During this surprise raid, the quality of salt given from the shops was also checked. Sampling of salt packets kept in the shops was done, which has been sent to the Food Laboratory located in Rudrapur for testing.

During the inspection, the availability and quality of other food items in the shops were also tested by the Deputy District Magistrates, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, Revenue Inspectors and Sub Inspectors.

The District Magistrate also issued instructions regarding the maintenance and proper handling of salt. It should be ensured that only high quality iodized salt reaches the consumers and action should be taken as per rules if any irregularity is found.
