A man, who hid his religious identity, was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly married a Hindu girl through a fake profile in Nanakmatta area of Udhamsingh Nagar district in Uttarakhand.
Taking immediate action, the police have arrested the youth Monish Ahmed, SSP Udhamsingh Nagar Manikant Mishra said.
The victim, a resident of Thana Nanakmatta area, told the police that Monish Ahmed posing himself as Manish Chaudhary son of Amit Chaudhary married her on December 11, 2024 at Prem Palace, Nanakmatta under the Hindu customs and traditions.
After the marriage, the accused and his family started demanding ₹ 2 lakh in cash, a car and gold jewellery from the victim. In her complaint she said she was also physically abused and thrashed.
The victim alleged that she is a vegetarian, but the accused and his family forcefully fed her non-vegetarian food. On 21 February, 2025, the accused, mother-in-law and both the sisters-in-law together ganged up to thrash her badly and later threw her out of the house.
After being thrown out of the house, the victim came to know that her husband Manish Chaudhary is actually Monish, who is son of Irshad Ahmed a resident of Shastri Nagar, Meerut (present address- Gayatri Villa, Jayanagar No.04 Police Station Dineshpur). The accused and his family belong to the Muslim religion, she said. Investigation also revealed that the accused Monish is already married to a Muslim girl.
The victim said she also started receiving threats on her life when she opposed the pressure of religious conversion.
On the complaint of the victim, Nanakmatta Police Station has registered FIR number-162/2025. Sections 69/115(2)/351(2)/352 BNS and Dowry Prohibition Act have been added.
The accused confessed to have admitted his crime. The accused also admitted that in all his educational certificates, his real name is Monish son of Irshad Ahmed.
The police arrested the accused from his residence Gayatri Villa, Jayanagar No.04, Thana Dineshpur on Saturday.
The Udham Singh Nagar Police has made it clear that crimes like cheating women in the society, dowry harassment and forced pressure for religious conversion will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
