A 26 year old woman has died in a private hospital in Dehradun following a severe infection allegedly caused by a gauze that was left inside her abdomen during caesarean delivery.
Officials said a four-member committee headed by Dehradun Chief Medical Officer Manoj Sharma has been formed to investigate the matter and submit its report soon. The committee was formed based on a complaint filed by the woman’s husband, Prajjwal Pal.
According to information received, 26-year-old Jyoti Pal gave birth to a son through a C-section at the Eye and Mother Care Center in Dehradun in January this year. It is alleged that doctors left the gauze in her abdomen and stitched it up.
After a few days, Jyoti began experiencing abdominal pain, and she was taken to the same hospital, but doctors could not explain the cause. When her condition worsened, she was taken to another hospital where the gauze was found to have caused a serious infection. However, she died during treatment on Tuesday.
Later, family members of the woman held protest demonstration and demanded stern action against doctors for the alleged negligence.
