Germany’s top seed Alexander Zverev and American eighth seed Ben Shelton will meet in the US Open men’s singles final on Sunday after contrasting semi-final victories at Flushing Meadows in New York.
Zverev, the 2026 French Open champion, defeated Russia’s Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6(7), 7-6(6) to reach his second US Open final. The German had also been runner-up at the tournament in 2020.
Shelton, meanwhile, fought back from a set down to beat fellow American Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 and reach his maiden Grand Slam final. The 23-year-old is now one victory away from ending a 23-year wait for an American men’s singles Grand Slam champion since Andy Roddick won the US Open in 2003.
The final will also be a major test for Shelton, who has lost all five of his previous meetings with Zverev.
Zverev, who won his first Grand Slam at the French Open earlier this year, will be seeking his second major title, while Shelton will look to cap a breakthrough run that included a stunning quarter-final victory over defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
The final is scheduled for Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
