Amid the political storm over the Ankita Bhandari murder case, several social organizations supported by the main opposition Congress have called for an Uttarakhand bandh on Sunday.
“In view of the Uttarakhand bandh called by various organizations on January 11, 2026, the Uttarakhand Police has made extensive preparations to maintain security and law and order across the state, ” an official statement said on Saturday.
“The safety and convenience of the people is our top priority. Additional police forces have been deployed in markets and sensitive areas to ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience,” the government said in the statement.
“In a democracy, everyone has the right to peaceful protest, but no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands under its guise. Please express your views peacefully and cooperate with the police administration,” the government said.
“Considering the interests and safety of drivers, traders, and the general public, please refrain from any actions that violate law and order or cause inconvenience to the public. Please maintain peace and harmony. Avoid posting any provocative content on social media,” the statement said.
“We appeal to everyone to cooperate with us in maintaining peace and order,” the government said.
