Dehradun: BSNL employees across Uttarakhand continued their indefinite protest for the second consecutive day on Wednesday against the management’s decision to implement a Pilot Project, which they claimed would “ruin” the company in the long-run.
Under the pilot project, the BSNL employees are being asked to work in rural areas instead of cities which the union leaders claimed would create huge revenue losses for the company. “In this pilot project, BSNL will be ruined as it would suffer huge revenue losses,” claimed BSNL employees Uttarakhand Union leader Devendra Bisht.
Responding to a nationwide call by the All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB), executives and non-executives across the country observed call attention day by wearing black badges to protest what they termed the management’s unilateral decision to roll out the pilot project.
In Uttarakhand, protesting employees continued their non-cooperation movement and staged dharnas at various locations like Dehradun, Tehri, Haldwani and Almora, demanding immediate withdrawal of the project. Union leaders claimed that the agitation witnessed complete participation by executives and non-executives in the state.
The AUAB alleged that the BSNL management had ignored employees’ concerns and gone ahead with the pilot project despite opposition from staff.
To intensify the agitation, the AUAB has called for demonstrations at all BSNL workplaces and the offices of General Managers and Chief General Managers across the country on July 31. A memorandums demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Uttarakhand Pilot Project will also be submitted to the management.
The employees have warned that the protest would be intensified if the management fails to revoke the pilot project and address their demands. The BSNL management has not yet issued any official response to the latest phase of the agitation.
