A 26-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead at a rented premises in Clement Town area of Dehradun early Monday morning, with police suspecting the involvement of her husband.
Police said the control room received information around 6 am from a man identified as Dheeraj Panwar, who reportedly said that he had shot his wife. When police tried to contact him, his mobile phone was found switched off.
A police team traced the location from which the call had been made and reached a room constructed inside a plot. The woman, identified as Kajal, wife of Dheeraj Panwar, was found dead with a gunshot injury.
Kajal was living at the premises near Eidgah Road in Subhash Nagar, close to Satya Sai Temple, along with her husband. She was originally from Megha Shakarpur village under Purqazi police station in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said Kajal’s brother Abhishek, who lives next to the premises, told them that the couple had been having disputes for the past several days.
A forensic field unit examined the spot and collected evidence. On the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s brother, police have registered a murder case at Clement Town police station.
Several police teams have been formed to trace and arrest Dheeraj Panwar, who remains untraceable. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motive are being investigated.
