The BJP on Saturday launched its state-wide ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) campaign with a march in Srinagar town of Pauri Garhwal district.
The march, which began at the roadways bus stand and culminated at the Ramlila Ground, was attended by local residents, BJP workers and party office-bearers.
The party said the large turnout reflected public support for development, good governance, peace and the state’s pride, while rejecting what it described as anarchic and negative politics.
Addressing a BJP rally, Dhami challenged state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal to clarify whether he endorsed Rahul Gandhi’s remarks against National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, describing the latter as a son of Uttarakhand who had dedicated his life to the nation.
Dhami said remarks against Doval amounted to an insult to the people of Uttarakhand, particularly those who had served the country in the armed forces. He asked Godiyal to make his position clear instead of remaining silent on the issue.
The chief minister also accused the Congress of trying to disturb the state’s peaceful atmosphere through its Nyay Yatra and protests, alleging that the party was attempting to divert attention from its electoral setbacks.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Dhami said the Congress was questioning constitutional institutions and electoral processes whenever results did not go in its favour. On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, he said anyone with objections should approach the appropriate authorities with evidence and follow constitutional procedures rather than take to the streets.
Invoking the Emergency imposed by former prime minister Indira Gandhi in 1975, Dhami questioned the Congress’s claims of defending the Constitution, saying the party had no moral authority to lecture others on democratic values.
