A twelfth class girl (18) was found murdered with severe head injuries at Dhalipur-Herbertpur area in Dehradun district in Uttarakhand on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
On the night of January 28, 2026, Vikasnagar police station received information about the body of a girl lying in the bushes by the roadside in Dhalipur-Herbertpur area. A police team immediately began investigations.
Local residents identified the girl as Manisha, daughter of Anand Singh, a resident of Boksa Basti, Dhalipur.
During the investigations, Manisha’s family members stated that she had gone to the hospital with her cousin Surendra alias Mandu on a motorcycle in the evening. When she did not return, her family members filed a police complaint against Surendra. A case was registered at Vikasnagar police station under FIR No. 27/26, Section 103 (1) BNS.
In a swift action, the police recovered Surendra’s motorcycle and a sickle from the scene of the crime. During the investigation so far, the police have obtained evidence that the sickle which was used in the crime was purchased by the accused two days ago.
However, the accused Surendra is absconding. Separate teams have been formed to arrest him, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dehradun, Ajai Singh met with Manisha’s family members and assured them of strict action against the accused.
