In continuing attacks by Leopards in Uttarakhand, a 55-year-old man was killed in Salt area of Almora district on Sunday.

Mahipal Singh was killed when he was returning home along with his wife at Tadam village in Salt area in the evening. Singh tried to put a brave fight but lost battle in the end.

In the past one month, nearly half a dozen people have lost lives in such attacks. In rural areas of Uttarakhand, the Leopard has become synonymous with terror. “The mere mention of a leopard or a tiger creates panic among people,” former chief Minister Harish Rawat said angrily.

“The government seems to believe it has fully discharged its duty simply by offering monetary compensation. The villages have become unsafe; leopards are now even intruding into homes to attack villagers. The government possesses neither a concrete action plan nor any strategic vision for controlling the leopard and tiger population,” Rawat said.
