BJP MLAs meet CM on Ankita issue but others not seen

With most of Uttarakhand Cabinet Ministers are in silent mode over the Ankita Bhandari murder case, a group of MLAs on Sunday met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and thanked him for the CBI probe.

“We discussed the state affairs and thanked our Chief Minister for the CBI probe,” said Kishore Upadhyay, BJP MLA from Tehri on social media.

Besides Upadhyaya, other MLAs who met the CM include Prem Chand Agarwal (Rishikesh), Khajan Das (Rajpur Road), Sahdev Singh Pundir (Sahaspur), Savita Kapoor (Dehradun Cantt), Asha Nautiyal (Kedarnath), Renu Bisht (Yamkeshwar), Brijbhushan Gairola (Doiwala) and Shaktilal Shah (Ghansali).

However, it was not yet clear as to why other BJP MLAs couldn’t meet the CM at a time when the Ankita Bhandari issue has brought a political storm in the state. When contacted, most of the MLAs said they were busy in their constituencies. “We will meet our CM separately,” said a BJP MLA from Dehradun, who wished not to be identified.

Except Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal, most of the Cabinet Ministers are mostly busy in their official and other political works finding no time to help the BJP and the CM to ward off blistering attacks from the opposition on the Ankita Bhandari issue. “We are not finding any person to give a befitting reply to the repeated attacks of the opposition in the Ankita Bhandari murder case,” admitted a top BJP leader.

Most of the BJP leaders are finding it difficult to talk on the issue.

Since the Ankita Bhandari murder issue is politically very sensitive, the BJP high command is closely monitoring the situation in Uttarakhand, the BJP sources said.

In the midst of the Ankita Bhandari issue, Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya was in news recently after her husband Girdhari Lal Sahu was forced to apologize on a controversial viral video that purportedly showed him saying that girls are available in Bihar for Rs 20,000-25000. “If we cannot help our party at least, we should not make situation unpleasant,” lamented another BJP leader.

The demand for a CBI investigation into the Ankita murder case, which took place in 2022, has resurfaced after former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore’s alleged wife Urmila Sanawar recently revealed the involvement of a “VIP” in a video she posted on social media where she is being heard allegedly talking to Rathore on phone.

The 19-year-old Ankita, who worked as a receptionist at the Vanantra Resort in Pauri, was murdered by its owner, Pulkit Arya, along with two of his employees. All the three have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the case last year.
