Hailstorm hits Doon, wet weather to continue till May 6

A sudden hailstorm on Saturday evening lashed parts of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, catching people off-guard. Light rainfall was also reported in several other parts of the hill state.

Dehradun Met centre said light to moderate rain / thunderstorm / snowfall (at places with altitude 4000m and above) likely to occur at many places Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand on Sunday.

The centre also issued a yellow alert stating that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning / gusty winds (speed 40-50 Kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in all districts of Uttarakhand on Sunday.

Meanwhile, IMD said isolated to scattered thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds (40-60 kmph) and hailstorm likely over Western Himalayan region including parts of Uttarakhand, plains of northwest & adjoining central India during 03rd-06th May, 2026.

Besides Dehradun, hailstorm has also been reported over other parts of Jammu-Kashmir, Uttarakhand, South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. A duststorm also hit East Rajasthan.
