Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Ramesh Vishwaskumar, the lone survivor of the horrific Air India plane crash, who is recovering from the injuries at a hospital in Ahmedabad.

Vishwaskumar a passenger of the ill-fated Air India flight which crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday miraculously escaped with injuries. “My brother was seated in a different row and didn’t survive. I still don’t know how I made it out alive,” he told the Prime Minister. “For a while, I thought I was going to die. Everything happened in front of my eyes — the noise, the impact, the fire. I somehow found a small space to escape.”

The video footages showed Vishwaskumar (38), who was among 242 people on board the flight AI171 virtually rising from the ashes as he walked towards the ambulance which took him to a hospital.

“The plane had exploded,” Kumar, a British national, said in Gujarati before he was rushed to the hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. He has received multiple injuries on his bodies like chest, face and legs.

Kumar’s seat 11A was located near the emergency door of the Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft. He said he saw the emergency door broken and jumped on the ground to escape the fire.

The Air India flight going to London crashed moments after the take-off from Ahmedabad before hitting a hostel building of B J Medical College and Hospital.
