Ahead of her come back film Batwara 1947, pretty actress Preity Zinta has secured permission from the Bombay High Court to initiate legal proceedings against technology giants Google, Meta Platforms and several other entities over the alleged misuse of her identity through artificial intelligence-generated content, media reports said on Thursday.

According to court filings, Zinta alleges that her name, image and likeness have been used without authorization in a range of digital content, including AI-generated deepfakes, manipulated photographs, chatbot personas and other online material. The actor has expressed concern that such content could mislead the public and damage her reputation.

The Bombay High Court granted her leave to file the suit, paving the way for a detailed examination of the allegations. The case is expected to focus on the growing challenges posed by generative AI technologies, which can create highly realistic images, videos and text that imitate real individuals.

The development comes amid increasing global concern over deepfakes and synthetic media. Celebrities, politicians and public figures around the world have raised alarms about the misuse of AI-generated content for impersonation, misinformation and fraud. Legal systems in several countries are grappling with how existing laws on privacy, publicity rights and defamation apply to rapidly evolving AI technologies.

Neither Google nor Meta immediately commented on the matter. The companies have previously stated that they are investing in tools and policies designed to detect, label and curb harmful AI-generated content on their platforms.

Zinta is returning to Bollywood through her new movie Batwara 1947 which is set to be released shortly. Batwara 1947 is period drama film co-written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. Set against the backdrop of the partition of India in 1947, the film stars Sunny Deol,[2] Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur.
