A superb century by Aiden Markram propelled South Africa to inch closer to victory in the world test championship 2025 against Australia at the end of the third day play on Friday at Lord’s in London.
Proteas now need just 69 runs for victory with eight wickets in hands. Markram was unbeaten on 102 and skipper Temba Bavuma on 65 not out.
Earlier, Australia managed to score 207 runs to set a target of 282 runs for South Africa to win the final match. Mitchel Stark remained not out on 58 putting a 59 run crucial partnership with Hazlewood for the last wicket.
In the second inning of South Africa, opener Markram and W Mulder together took score from 9/1 to 70 before Mulder fell on 27 runs. Steve Smith made a blunder when he gave an extra life to Bavuma by failing to take a simple catch. After the drop catch, the two players took the score to 213 bringing South Africa closer to a historic victory.
