Two elderly women pilgrims from Rajasthan died while bathing at the Tapt Kund hot spring near the Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Friday, police said.
According to police, the two women suddenly became unconscious while bathing at the hot spring in the morning. They were taken to a hospital in an ambulance but doctors declared them dead.
The women identified as Ramu Devi (71) and Prema Devi (63) were part of a group of 100 pilgrims from Bhilwara in Rajasthan. They had arrived at Badrinath Dham on September 4 to attend a Bhagwat Katha programme. The group had reportedly been visiting Tapt Kund every day for bathing.
The incident occurred when the pilgrims went to the hot spring for their customary bath on Friday morning.
The exact cause of the deaths was not immediately known.
