The Congress has mocked Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after he slipped and fell while inspecting an under-construction road in Haldwani, linking the incident to its ongoing Nyay Yatra against the BJP government.
The incident occurred on Sunday when Dhami visited the Amritpur bypass project in Haldwani to review the progress of construction. While walking on an uneven, rocky stretch of the road, the chief minister lost his balance and fell. A video of the incident subsequently surfaced on social media.
Taking a swipe at Dhami, Congress in a social media post said the growing crowds at the Congress’s Nyay Yatra had unsettled the chief minister politically.
The Congress launched its Nyay Yatra on October 22 ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections. The party has been highlighting issues including unemployment, alleged corruption, crimes against women and the demand for justice in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.
The BJP government, meanwhile, has been defending its record while attacking the Congress over its criticism of the administration.
The Congress’s latest attack comes amid an intensifying political battle in Uttarakhand, with both the BJP and the Opposition stepping up their campaigns months before the next Assembly elections.
The chief minister’s fall, captured on video, has now provided the Congress with another opportunity to target the BJP government as its Nyay Yatra seeks to build momentum across the state.
Meanwhile, a BJP spokesman dismissed the Congress reaction as “cheap publicity stunts.”
