Bhagirathi Bisht, a native of remote Van village in Dewal block in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, has won the gold medal in the 42 km marathon in 2 hours 51 minutes in the Hyderabad Marathon 2025.
Bisht’s story is very inspirational. She lost her father at the age of just 3 years. She used to plough fields and handle all the household chores with her brothers and sisters.
“I was always determined to give wings to my dreams despite all difficult conditions and limited resources,” she said.
Bhagirathi’s next dream – a medal for India in the Olympics.
The 14th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2025 witnessed an unprecedented turnout with a record-breaking 28,300 runners, making it one of India’s largest and most celebrated community sporting events.
The marathon, held on Sunday, featured three categories—Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K—which concluded at Gachibowli, marking the official kickoff of India’s marathon season.
