Diwali, the festival of lights, was celebrated across the globe with all enthusiasm and gaiety. People celebrated the festival in India distributing sweets and bursting crackers. Most of the houses were tastefully decorated and illuminated with large number of people thronging markets to buy Diwali gifts and other necessities related with the most grand festival of Hindus.
This time, Diwali festival was on two days as Kartik Amavasya Tithi (time) has fallen starting from Oct 20 at 3.44 PM and ending on Oct 21 at 5.54 PM, astrologers said.
The main attraction of Diwali was Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Ram, where over 26 lakh diyas were lit up.
Reports of Diwali celebrations came from US, UK and other countries also.
In India, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people on the occasion of Diwali.
The equity market remained green with the BSE Sensex closing 411.18 or 0.49% higher at 84,363.37.
