A leopard has attacked and killed a man in the Barakot area of ​​Champawat district, Uttarakhand, early Tuesday morning.

This is the second death from a leopard attack in the area within a month.

Officials said the incident occurred in Dhargada Tok of Churani Gram Panchayat when Dev Singh Adhikari (45) went outside his house to relieve himself. After the leopard’s attack, Adhikari died on the spot.

The incident, which occurred at the crack of dawn, created a shock throughout the area, and angry villagers gathered at the scene to express their outrage. They asked the Forest Department to declare the leopard a man-eater. Villagers said the leopard had also attempted to attack the deceased’s wife on Monday evening.

In November, a leopard killed a man in Kotla, Barakot also. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident and directed the Forest Department to take all necessary steps in the area.
