Saurabh Raj Behar, the younger son of Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behar, was on Monday in serious condition after he was allegedly beaten by three masked men with sticks and rods in Rudrapur town, the headquarters of Udhamsingh Nagar district in Uttarakhand

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to Behar, an MLA from Kitchha, over the phone and ordered an investigation into the matter. No arrest has been made so far.

The incident occurred near the Awas Vikas area where Saurabh, a councillor with the Rudrapur Municipal Council was walking towards a police outpost when three masked men riding on a motorcycle attacked him. Saurabh was seriously injuring in the attack. The attackers later fled.

The injured Saurabh was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was placed in the ICU due to his critical condition. According to doctors, his condition remains serious and he is being constantly monitored.

As soon as the news of the incident spread, a large number of leaders of political parties and Behar’s supporters reached the hospital and raised slogans against then government.

Behar also raised serious questions about the police administration, alleging that his son was called to the police outpost under the pretext of a compromise. A pre-planned conspiracy was carried out to launch a life-threatening attack on him, Behad alleged.

He warned that if the police do not arrest the attackers soon, he will find them himself with the help of his supporters.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Harish Rawat also condemned the attack and sought stern action against the culprits.
