Three minor sisters were killed after they jumped from the ninth floor of their residential building in Ghaziabad city of Uttar Pradesh in the early hours of Wednesday in what appeared to be a case of obsession with online games.
The three minors—identified as Pakhi (12), Prachi (14), and Nishika (16)—were said to have jumped from the ninth floor of their apartment in Bharat City, a residential township in Ghaziabad.
According to the Ghaziabad police, the sisters, aged 12, 14, and 16, died after a disagreement at home over their growing dependence on an online task-based game.
They said the siblings were found lying near the building after local residents heard a loud noise around 2 am, and alerted authorities. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Police sources said they received information about the incident at around 2.15 am and a police team reached the spot and started investigations.
The girls were also allegedly addicted to a dangerous online task-based game called Korean Lover, which is said to exploit those obsessed with Korean pop culture.
The girls began playing the game during the COVID-19 pandemic and had reportedly been involved with it for the past five years. Prachi, the middle sister, is believed to have been the “leader” of the game, assigning tasks to the other two.
