One person was arrested on Friday in Haldwani town of Nainital district after he duped two businessmen of Rs 32 lakh in the name of holding a premier cricket league tournament.
Vikas Dhaka was arrested when he was about to checkout from a Haldwani hotel following a tip off, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath T C said. Dhaka had promised the businessmen including former MLA Narayan Pal that top former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh and Yousaf Pathan would be participating in the tournament, Swami said.
“We have bowled out fraudster Vikas Dhaka. No tournament, no preparation — just fraud,” the SSP said after the arrest.
The SSP said the police has exposed the fraud in the much-talked-about EVCL Cricket League at the International Stadium, Gaulapar in Haldwani town. During the investigations, police found that Dhaka had not made any preparation for holding the premier league tournament.
The accused’s bank accounts related to the transactions have been frozen
