Two detained after journalist beaten up in Doon

With Congress leaders and media persons demanding strong action, the Uttarakhand Police on Saturday took two persons into custody for allegedly beating and abusing a Dehradun-based journalist.

Mohd Kaif and Mohd Tabish were taken into custody for questioning after Hem Bhat, a journalist, lodged an FIR saying he was abused and beaten by three men near Race Course area when he was returning home on Friday night.

SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh said the police has launched a manhunt to nab Samir, who is still at large.

Later, both Kaif and Tabish told the police that they beat the journalist, who was driving a two-wheeler, after he did not give their vehicle a “side” pass.  They later stopped the Journalist and beat him.

Meanwhile, state Congress President Ganesh Godiyal visited the house of Bhat and demanded strong action against the culprits. A large number of journalists also expressed concern over the incident.
