Nine days after the brutal murder of a young girl, unidentified gunmen shot dead Arjun Sharma (42), the owner of a famous gas agency at Tibeti Market area in the heart of Dehradun city on Wednesday morning, police said.

Two gunmen who came on a two wheeler shot at Sharma, a resident of Indira Nagar, from close range when he was standing near his car at around 10:30 AM in front of a temple in the Tibeti Market. Later, Sharma was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to bullet wounds. Sharma, who was the owner of the famous Amardeep Gas Agency at GMS Road Dehradun, had gone to the sports complex near Tibeti Market close to Parade Ground to play tennis, police said. After the murder, the assailants escaped on the scooty.

Sharma’s wife Abhilasha later filed an FIR alleging that her husband was having a legal dispute with his mother Bina Sharma, who was made an accused in the murder case. In addition to this, Abhilasha also named Dr Ajay Khanna of S K Memorial Hospital, Vinod Uniyal and Sangita Uniyal in the murder case for having monetary disputes with her husband and family members. A person close to the family also alleged that Sharma was having an old dispute with the accused over a transaction of Rs 42 crore.

The police has launched a manhunt to nab the assailants. “We are investigating the case from various angles. We still don’t know what kind of weapon was used in the firing. A postmortem is being conducted in this regard,” SP City Pramod Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the blood stains at the place where Sharma was shot were cleaned with water. Within 2-3 hours, the traffic started plying normally in the area. “We didn’t see anything as we came late,” said a woman shopkeeper of Tibeti Market.

Significantly, Sharma’s murder came in nine days after the grisly broad daylight murder of Gunjan Shrivastva (23) who was hacked to death by a known acquaintance in full view of the people at Machchhiwala Bazar also in the heart of the city.

“What is happening in our city? Two murders in nine days. Very shocking,” said senior Congress leader Rajkumar.
