Besides Bina Sharma, two others who were arrested include Dr Ajay Khanna, the owner of the S K Memorial Hospital and one Vinod Uniyal, a close acquaintance of the Sharma family.

SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh said the main motive behind the murder was a real estate dispute where Dr Khanna was putting pressure on Bina Sharma to get back his Rs 8 crore for not getting the possession of the property due to a court stay taken by Arjun Sharma.  After failing to get the possession, Dr Khanna along with Bina Sharma and Uniyal hatched a conspiracy to kill Arjun Sharma. For killing Arjun Sharma, Bina Sharma, Uniyal and Dr Khanna hired Pankaj Rana (52) and his real brother Rajiv Rana (50), who were natives of Pauri district, with a promise of Rs 12 lakh. Pankaj was driver of Uniyal.

After getting all information about Sharma, the two brothers on Wednesday killed him from close range at Tibeti Market in Dehradun at 10.30 AM.

Amid mounting pressure including the strict instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the police in less than 24 hours nabbed the two accused at Ladpur area in Dehradun during which both the accused received bullets wounds in their legs. They were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Later during the detail interrogations, the two accused revealed the main plot to kill Sharma at the behest of mother Bina, Uniyal and Dr Khanna. “Two country-made pistols and a scooter were recovered from the criminals,” a police statement said.

After Sharma received a gunshot at around 10:30 AM in front of a temple in the Tibeti Market, he was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to bullet wounds. Sharma had gone to the sports complex near Tibeti Market close to Parade Ground to play tennis, police said. After the murder, the assailants escaped on the scooter.

Sharma’s wife Abhilasha later filed an FIR alleging that her husband was having a legal dispute with his mother Bina Sharma, who was made an accused in the murder case. In addition to this, Abhilasha also named Dr Ajay Khanna of S K Memorial Hospital, Vinod Uniyal and Sangita Uniyal in the murder case for having monetary disputes with her husband and family members
