Days after Bairagiwala incident, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her landlord’s nephew belonging to different community in a rooftop toilet at a house in Dehradun’s Lakkhibagh area.

The incident sparked outrage, leading to protests, forced market closures, and clashes with the police on Thursday night in Dehradun. Angry Hindu activists tried to torch the landlord’s shop and pelted stones on his home. However, police swung into action and disperse the activists, who were demanding stern action against the accused.

Police said the victim’s family resides in the house as tenants in Lakhibagh. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the girl had gone to the toilet on the building’s second floor late Wednesday night. When she did not return for a long time, her mother went upstairs to check and found that the landlord’s nephew was allegedly raping her.

Members of the local traders’ association also forced the closure of shops in the Paltan Bazaar area while raising slogans against the police administration. As the tension grew, the police registered a rape case and assured strong action against the accused.

In a recent incident in Dehradun’s Bairagiwala, a local BJP leader was bludgeoned to death by members of a different community over an irrigation dispute leading to considerable tension in the area.
