Police have arrested 13 alleged gamblers, including a United States citizen, during a late-night raid at a house in the Rajpur area of Dehradun, officials said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, Rajpur police conducted a raid on Wednesday night at a residence located behind the helipad area. During the operation, officers found 13 people allegedly engaged in gambling at four tables inside a room of the house.
Police seized 167 decks of playing cards, 625 dice, 118 gambling chips, cash amounting to Rs 1.52 lakh, and 41 US dollars from the spot.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Gambling Act at Rajpur Police Station in Dehradun.
Among those arrested is Tasi Dando (67), a resident of Oregon in the United States who is currently staying in Dehradun’s Tibetan Colony. The other accused have been identified as residents of Dehradun and neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, including Tenzin Choge (46) of Sirmaur district.
Police said the raid was carried out following confidential information about gambling activities being conducted at the premises. All the accused were taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
Officials said investigations are continuing to ascertain the extent of the gambling operation and whether similar activities had been taking place at the location for a prolonged period.
