As Amitabh Bachchan turned 83 today, he revealed that he first met his wife Jaya on the sets of film Guddi directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee during his initial years of struggle suggesting that the love blossomed during its shoot. But sadly, within 10-12 days Hrishi Da dropped Big B from the movie saying the role may not suit him.
But behind the scenes, the love that began from Guddi continued unabated and culminated into the marriage on June 3, 1973.
In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh hosted Javed Akhtar and his son Farhan Akhtar in the Friday’s episode which turned into a nostalgic celebration for a special birthday.
Amid laughter, songs, and various interesting conversations, Big B shared a rare anecdote from his early days in the film industry — one that also led to the beginning of his love story with Jaya.
During the show, a female audience member asked, “It is heard that your love story with Jaya ji began on the sets of Zanjeer and soon after you two got married. Is it true?” The megastar smiled and replied, “This is a parivarik show and let it be like that. But since you asked, let me clear the air — you are absolutely wrong. Jaya and I were cast for Guddi. I had also shot for 10–12 days. But Hrishikesh da thought I wouldn’t be a good choice since my film Anand was releasing, and I might not suit the role. Jaya and I met there first — and what happened next, I am not going to say,” he added with a mischievous grin.
Farhan shared another story from the shoot of Lakshya. He shared that on one of the days, when the actors were supposed to land on set at 5 am, Amitabh showed up at 3:30 am. “I remember that we wanted to shoot the climax during sunrise, because the lighting is very good at that hour. The call time for the actors was 5 am, and the crew had to reach there by 3:30 am to set everything up. We all reached the spot with all the equipment, and I saw someone sitting atop a stack of chairs. At first, none of us could make out who was sitting there at this hour, but as we approached this man, we realised that Bachchan saab was already there at the location, and that too, in costume. People started screaming at each other to get things done quickly because he was already there,” he shared.
