The Uttarakhand Police on Friday arrested five Sikh devotees from Punjab on charges of assaulting two local traders over a parking dispute in Jyotirmath of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
A case was registered against five Sikh devotees from Mohali in Punjab on charges of assault and rioting in Jyotirmath.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Sikh devotees who had come to visit Hemkund Sahib had taken a room in a hotel on the Badrinath National Highway. They started parking their vehicles in a private parking area in front of a hotel. Soon the Sikh devotees entered into a brawl with the owner of the hotel Tika Prasad Namboodiri and his son Gaurav.
Later, Sikh devotees attacked both of father and son with stones and injured them. Namboodiri has been admitted to the Community Health Center Jyotirmath while Gaurav was discharged after first aid.
After the incident, the angry traders approached the police and demanded action against the accused. The Jyotirmath Chamber of Commerce president Nain Singh Bhandari said urged the police and district administration to take strict action in this matter.
