Financial troubles and personal stress may have forced Surendra Koli, who had been struggling to find work in Haridwar, to commit suicide, said a police official involved in the investigations after assessing the post mortem report which was received on Wednesday.
The post mortem report confirmed that Koli, who was acquitted in the Nathari cases last year by the Supreme Court, committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan. There were visible marks of rope on the neck of Koli who was found dead hanging from a ceiling fan in the kiosk at Saptsarovar Road in Haridwar on Friday. However, there were no marks of any injury on the body, the post mortem report said. The blood apparently came out of mouth and nose after Koli fell on the ground as the rope broke under his heavy weight, the official said.
The police said Koli had been under considerable stress and was facing difficult financial circumstances. He had reportedly borrowed Rs 5,000 to set up the tea kiosk and had started operating it only three or four days before his death.
Some of Koli’s family members have raised questions about the circumstances of his death.
Police have also examined CCTV footage from the area and found no suspicious activity, according to the officer.
The officer said Koli had been living under difficult circumstances and had changed four rooms within a short period while keeping his identity concealed. He allegedly faced difficulties in finding employment because he did not have police verification and wanted to conceal his identity.
