After more than a fortnight long suspense, the Nainital police claimed to have solved the mysterious murder of yoga trainer Jyoti Mer on July 30 in Haldwani town of Uttarakhand with the arrest of the main accused.

Mer was found dead in suspicious circumstances in her rented room in Haldwani area of Nainital district. Mer was strangulated to death, preliminary investigations have revealed.

On the complaint of Mer’s mother, the police had registered a murder case against two brothers Abhay and Ajay, who were natives of Bihar and used to run the yoga center. Since then, both the accused were absconding.

After a long hunt, Abhay, who allegedly murdered Mer, was arrested from Nagla village in nearby Kichcha area on Tuesday, said SSP Nainital Prahalad Narayan Meena. Abhay told the police that his elder brother Ajay was having illicit relations with Mer. After sometime, Abhay was removed from the yoga centre which was being conducted by Mer. This led to hatred between the two brothers. On July 30, Abhay went to Mer’s rented house and strangulated her.

Prior to Abhay’s arrest, the family members of Mer had also staged dharna in Haldwani demanding immediate arrest of the two brothers.
