A purported video has gone viral where a newly married school teacher, who died in mysterious circumstances in Dehradun, has stated that she was taking the extreme step as she was unable to bear the anxiety caused by the harassment by her in-laws.
There are discrepancies over the cause of the death of Srishti Khatri, a school teacher, just eight months after their marriage in Dehradun’s Doiwala area. She was found dead on Wednesday.
Police have registered a case of dowry harassment against Saurabh Khatri, an Uttarakhand Secretariat employee, his mother and sister in connection with the suspicious death of Srishti Khatri.
According to police, the case was registered at the Doiwala police station under Section 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of the deceased’s mother.
Khatri was posted as a teacher at a government school in Tehri district. She got married to Saurabh Khatri, an employee posted at the Uttarakhand Secretariat, in November last year.
In her complaint, Srishti’s mother alleged that her daughter had been subjected to mental and physical harassment since her marriage over dowry demands and other issues. She further alleged that Srishti was frequently insulted and branded as “inauspicious” by her in-laws.
Accusing her daughter’s husband and in-laws of killing her, the complainant also alleged that the family did not inform her about Srishti’s death on July 29. A post-mortem report is awaited.
