One person was killed on Sunday after being hit by boulders at Chirbasa trek route of Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand forcing the authorities to suspend the pilgrimage.
The deceased was identified as Madan Mohan (65), a resident of Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district, according to an official report.
Police said debris and boulders were continuously falling on the Kedarnath trek route at Chirbasa following rainfall. In view of the safety of pilgrims, authorities have suspended the pilgrimage on the trek route.
Authorities have appealed to all pilgrims not to proceed further on the trek route until it is cleared.
The Kedarnath shrine, one of the four major pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand’s Char Dham circuit, attracts thousands of devotees during the pilgrimage season.
