An earthquake of 5.2 magnitude hit Kargil area of Ladakh early Friday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.
The quake which occurred around 0250 hours was also felt in nearby areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
However, there was no report of any loss of life or property so far from any part of the region.
The USGS however said the tremor measured 5.1 on the Richter scale with epicenter at Padam area.
